Student Fellowship Recipients

Kelsey Gross, '13
Kelsey Gross is an Economics major at CMC in her third year. She is researching the effect of raising a special needs child on the labor market and health outcomes of women in professional careers. She is working under the guidance of Professor Kathleen Brown, the Faculty/Student Research Coordinator at the Berger Institute and Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology at CMC.

Erica Libby, '12
Erica is an Economics and Middle Eastern Studies dual major. Erica is a member for Claremont McKenna's Student Investment Fund where she works on international markets. She is this year's recipient of the Berger Institutes 2010-11 research fellowship to pursue her own research "The effects of religious and cultural constraints in the Middle East on female labor force participation and the effects on economic development". Erica is also a goalkeeper on the CMS women's varsity soccer team. This summer Erica plans to work at Bill Gates Investments as an investment analyst. Click here to read Erica's full report.

Courtney Dern, '10
Courtney earned her degree in Psychology and Literature. She worked with Diane Halpern as a research assistant on various projects regarding work-family conflict and adult education. She was awarded the 2009-10 Berger Institute Fellowship for her project “
Work and Words: The Effects of Work-Family Conflict and Parental Beliefs about Early Learning on Preschoolers’ Vocabulary”. Upon graduating from CMC, Courtney was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to teach in Norway. Click

Anna Beninger, '09
Anna was the first recipient of the Berger Institute Student Fellowship in 2008-09. She performed her research in conjunction with Diane Halpern and completed her project titled
"The 'Why' Behind the Gender Wage Gap: The Impact of Self-Esteem, Situational Characterization, and Gender on the Propensity to Initiate Negotiation". Since graduating from CMC Anna has been attending the London School of Economics and Political Science where she is earning her MSc in Social and Cultural Psychology. Click
